A Blog In Night

Unfortunetally a friend of my boyfriend died the past week and while he headed out to the wake early I'm waiting up for him for when he gets home. So it turned into a Blog Night.

Just surfing a couple of my favourite blogs after submitting a late assignment (ek!)

I've been horribly inefficient lately, not getting anywhere with my book idea, or securing a sketch artist or anything for the cleaning business. (Although I did write up a proper business outline, not to research & go over budget, another ek!)

But I did get a job at a local call center for the Liberal Party and am in the process of trying to volunteer with the Green Party so that I might add it to my resume & up the Anti on my experience when I apply for a government position.

Ottawa Home Show

This weekend I worked at the Ottawa House and Garden show and

OMGOODNESS!

First off the garden portion was just absolutely amazing and took my breath away. It got my so hyped up and I can't wait to start landscaping J's back and front yards this coming spring. Absolutely fantastic! With fountains, and flowers everywhere, the real steal of the show was the small stream that was created in the far corner, complete with bench, trees, fish, waterfall, and flowers everywhere!

Besides the garden section however there was a pair of small environmental homes on display. The first was a containment home from IDEKIT. it was a bit of an off layout but it was gorgeous inside and was absolutely sleek and modern! The second was my favourite tho. Made from Bonneville Homes with an absolutely fantastic layout with the bathroom and two bedrooms ajoining to the open concept living and dining room. Simply perfect for a small family, guest or pool house, or a cottage. With no price references though its hard to determine if its actually a good & fair investment. Either way they were the highlight of the show and by far my favourite part of the day!

Reviewing My Goals

So it's only been a couple days since I layed out my focus targets in life, and I figured today I'd go back, review a few of them that have changed, and specify those that haven't really.

Solidifying my rental apartment application.

Unfortunetly because my most recent landlord was in fact my ex, and he refused to call in to reference my application I was turned down for the apartment I had my eye on.

Solution: I'm going to be phoning up a resource councellor at the local recreational center, as well as keep looking for apartments online and making about 6 different calls today to set up apartment viewings for this week.

First, find the apartment. lol.

Finding a Job.
I'm sending out various resumes today. I'm also waiting to find out where my next apartment will be before I start canvassing my resumes in the neighborhood.

Starting a Business
Today I'm going to be looking into Bursaries that might be available to me, plus free business seminars, workshops, and classes.

I just worked for a booth staff for an electrical company this weekend at a housing tradeshow and realized that there were no cleaning companies there. Look up tradeshows, make a list of things needed to set up a booth and prices. Look up what it takes to sponsor an event with groupon & social living.

I've been talking to a few artists online via Deviantart.com to try and get quotes on sketches for our site and business (cleaning & maids). To do today is email the rest back who have expressed interest with specific ideas for the quotes. Go over Business plan, and service list.

Writing a book
Put aside 2 hours today (this morning, right after this as it's the one thing I can't do with a 3 year old screaming and jumping around.

Giving a kick of motivation to getting out into the Modeling world.
I signed up with online collaberation site, modelmayhem.com, and set up a portfolio. My task for this today is to go through my emails that I havent yet addressed and try to set something up for this coming weekend in which I'm not working.

I also set up an interview with an online modeling agency and got a sign up sheet, but they are requesting a $100 deposit to help finance their services. I hate paying upfront for something that should be a form of employment. Email him today and see if there is a percentage of wage option working for them and explain my view.

Spending more time with my Daughter
I was having massive withdrawls last night, having not seen my daughter in a couple of days while I try and set up a place and had assumed that I would be babysitting her today as its a monday and her father has to work... or should be anyways. I was ticked to get a message saying he had planned an entire day AND night with his current girlfriend and her son, and was trying to tell me that I had to suck it up and couldn't spend time with my daughter today. Unfortunetly my mother bear came out, and I had a minor break down as I texted him crying telling him to F off and I was absolutely going to spend time with my daughter today. I've no idea how people think that they can get away with shit like that especially as I just signed over legal custody to him to try and get him more government funding because he is unemployed (and not trying) and about to get kicked out of his apartment at his grandmothers home. Looking back I've absolutely no idea why I did this but thank goodness there is a clause that we go back to 50/50 as soon as I find an apartment so that will be first priority. Today I'm vowing her at least an hour at the park and a museum trip some time this week!

Life & Courses of Action

Life is Unpredictable.

It's spontaneous, it's fun, it's thrilling, it's ridiculously fantastic.

It's Complicated.

Over the past year my life has taken a number of different paths.

This blog started off as a way for me to try and get a little more out of life as part-time at home young mom.

Then last May, little under a year ago, my ex-fiance and I broke up after 3 1/2 years and having our gorgeous baby girl.

Shortly after a near psychotic break down, and a couple of rebounds I met J.

J blew me off my feet. He was just a down to earth guy with a classy streak and a smile that can make any woman fall head over heels for him. Oh good lordie that smile.

& I moved in with him. Maybe a little too early as the stress of literally aquiring a new family over night and my *ahem* vibrant & headstrong personality seemed overwhelming.

My mistakes that seemed to be rooted in never really having a mature relationship; his that seemed to come from his own personal insecurities, and the fact that our personalities seemed to mirror & feed into each other so perfectly in the worst and best ways, everything seemed to crumble after a series of 3-4 day honeymoon periods.

But it was passion.

Even in the worst of times as we were yelling and screaming, chasing each other through the house there was always that underlying want and inability to let go of something you love.

Sometimes I was shocked we didn't just break down into a full out toddler fight with pinching and biting.

I certainly stomped my feet enough times.

But I still love P.

Not as in a relationship, but as my high school sweet heart, as my first, as someone who was the center of my world for 4 years, as my child's father and as someone who's part of my life.

Apparently that's an intimidating thing to alot of people, including J.

And so it leads to me moving out. Again.

Another path, another way, another change.

All I can look at it as being is a change towards stability. And so comes a new dedication to this blog (how many times have I said that right?!)

In all honesty, I want stability, I want focus, and I want to go somewhere in life and this just feels like a turning point in my life.

It's taking the aspects both P & J added to my life, the qualities and authenticity they gave to the way I live and my memories of the years past.

So from now on I focus.

I focus on:

Solidifying my rental apartment application.

Furnishing that aptartment.

Finding a Job.

Starting a Business

Writing a book

Giving a kick of motivation to getting out into the Modeling world.

But most importantly, being a good mother and providing quality memories and morals for my daughter to grow up on. That is my responsibility as a parent.

These are just a few of the different aspects of my life but they're what add to its vitality. They add life to living and what make me happy & inspire, and from now on this blog is to record each step I take towards bettering myself and my life.

I've always had the image of my 30 some father running with his ever classy 90's fanny pack burnt into my mind, this however, kind of gets me excited.

What a great accessory for traveling this summer!

But I did pick up on some wearable tips that I completely agree with.

DO pair the accessory with a clean silhouette

DON’T wear baggy t-shirts and shorts, please!

DO take a cue from the runway and accent a simple, girly dress with a sleek, belted fanny pack

DON’T wear your waist pouch in the center, try off to the side of the body

DO try a fanny pack instead of a clutch for no hassle late-night dancing

Rubber Boots in Fashion

As practical as they are Rubber Boots haven't been around forever.

In fact a rough version of them was brought about in the amazons by the tribal people there around 1800. A few years later a pair of such boots were commissioned by Arthur Wellesley, the first Duke of Wellington. They became even more popular as Charles Goodyear created the process of vulcanization in 1844, which uses heat and sulfur to increase flexibility and durability. As they say from there on in the rest is history and rubber boots took off like hot cakes.

(PS the expression SELL LIKE HOT CAKES - "Hot cakes cooked in bear grease or pork lard were popular from earliest times in American. First made of cornmeal, the griddle cakes or pancakes were of course best when served piping hot and were often sold at church benefits, fairs, and other functions. So popular were they that by the beginning of the 19th century 'to sell like hot cakes' was a familiar expression for anything that sold very quickly effortlessly, and in quantity." Over the pat couple years however, the fashion work has taken the Rubber Boot by storm, making it no longer something to be worn out to the muck yards but out on town on those rainy days!

Clip on Plant Rooms, Outdoor Apartment Alternatives, & Earthquakes

So one long day, the first day of spring in fact, stuck in Starbucks, while it snowed, led to this.

An environmental concept designed ot add a little extra leg room to the average apartment and promote sun, gardening, and eco-friendly living; complete with worm farm and a rainwater tank. A fantastic idea if you use it for a garden, or even an extra office space. I love it, although I do question the cost benefit & installation process. I can't wait to see it once their done their prototypes! ARTICLE HERE

That however, shortly led to this.

Which I cannot imagine 20 stories up, let alone 4 or 5.

and into more extremes like this.

Fresh air is always important for children but I question parents who would consider going to this extreme lol.

As a side note that I did find somewhat interesting, the recent chilean earthquake that happened on February 27th actually pushed the earths axis by 3 degrees due to its positioning away from the equator, shortening our day length by 1.26 milliseconds. Not a big variation by anymeans, but still an interesting factor to consider in our perception of space and how things that happen on earth can affect it as a whole.

Holographic Universe?

Did you know that the brain uses the same mathematical equation to decipher its sensory information about the world around us, as is used to create a hologram?

Gives you something to think about hmm?

In THIS interview with metaphysic philosopher, Michael Talbot explains the theory that our world & surroundings are mainly a projection of our mind. The best part is that, I think, he makes quite a substantial arguement, such as the FACT above, considering the subject at hand.

I believe this theory at least to a certain extent. While I find its entirety a little un-nerving the same equation use, and the fact that different peoples' 'realities' can change according to their perception, even when referring to the same event.

EX: Urban Myth I find quite believable. A university professer started off the semester by having having someone run into the class room and steal her purse. She then asked the students what colour hat the perp. was wearing. She gave three colour options, but only a low percentage, I believe something like 30% gave the correct answer. They had not been wearing a hat at all.

This leads to a massive amount of other questions, what difference would it make to life, or to our perception of life if this were true? How would it relate to our spirituality?

Perrault Winery in the Ottawa Area

I'm a huge supporter of buying local, and supporting businesses in your niehgborhood and Perrault is one such business that I would vouche for with all my heart!

The Perrault Winery was giving out sample drinks at the bar I was waitressing at about a year ago, and I had the chance to speak with two of their promoters who were absolutely delightful! Shoftly after my Ex-Fiance and I went for a taste testing session at their winery and were just as blown away with the quality of their wine as I had been with their level of customer service & promoters.

Aside from being local, great quality product, fantastic customer service they are also Orangic!

Yay!

I can't wait until they reopen in the summer so I can bring my current Beau to go and get a bottle of their ice wine! No joke, it's the best I've ever had, their $20 bottle easily topping the $500 bottle we had recieved as a house warming gift from his uncle!

Beating the Winter Blues & In Store Crowds + a Giveaway!

I ran across an interesting ad this morning.

SkinAds.

A new company launching in the Ottawa area this coming April that enable people to create a 'profile' within their company & market themselves to companies who wish to pay them to sport temporary brand tattoos at $100 a month. The only condition is that you are active outside of the home, & have access to a webcam in which to verify that you are indeed sporting the tattoo in an acceptable location and in the agreed upon way.

I find this very interesting, as many companies will pay someone to sport their logo on their car but SkinAds now appears to have taken it to the next level. I personally would actually consider this; get something on your ankle or a 'cover up' spot for work, and just throw on the shorts when you go for a jog, and voila, the Coffee Budget is covered!

Project Bedroom Redo

Glimpse Into Motherhood

As many of you don't know I'm a young mother.

Being the oldest of 6 however, when I discovered I was pregnant at 16 (with the first man I'd ever been with & a continued relationship thereafter for 3 1/2 years thank you very much) it wasn't a huge trauma for me. It was just transitioning to chaning my siblings diapers to doing it for my own child.

A turmoltuous 4 years later and here we are. Worth every moment.

And here she is, my gorgeous baby girl at about 2 1/2 years old at a family reunion on the farm in my favourite picture of her.

How To: Create a Blog

I'm a blogger. I'm also computer illiterate.

& while I absolutely adore my friends & loved ones, it seems everyone else is as well.

So, 6 quick tips on how to create & run a blog, and sites associated based on what I had to find out for myself; and best yet, it's said in plain english.

1. Determine whether you want to use a host or own the url.

While I'm sure there are pros and cons to both, life is simlified by working through a hosting website when you're a first time blogger & just getting your feet off the ground.

Two most popular hosts: blogger.com & Wordpress.com

2. Customization of your blog.
If you choose to use a hosting site, as I did, you're given a basic pre-made template to start off with. Of course you may use the customization tools available with that template or you can take it one step further and either find and download a more unique template, or perhaps create your own.

3. HTML Codes. Become familiar with them.
I'm not saying understand them, not for now, because I sure as heck don't. But you should be able to scan through the html codes of the template & recognize (roughly) which portions affect which parts of the blog. This is specifically handy of you're trying to change colours, pictures, reorganize sections, or a number of other changes not addressed by the provided customization tools. I didn't use any particular site for this besides fiddling around with the codes myself.
For me hands on did more than a book ever could.

4. Alright, so by now you should have a simple, customized blog set up.
Yay! Now you need to choose a topic.
While a personal blog is fine to achieve personal goals, it is not appropriate to achieve business goals with. The topic can surely be family, or children; education or local news, but its generally a good idea to restrict the majority of posts to a few topics. This way you can create individual pages or labels for your posts, & it will be easier for readers to find what they're interested in, rather than sifting through countless posts. The occasional personal interest post is A-OK, & in fact can jazz things up, but too often and it can make your blog seem choatic.
(I'm currently in the process of trying to follow my own advise, EK!)

5. Marketing & Advertisement, Do it!
Your blog is up and running, your excited, your posting... but who's reading it?
People can't read your blog if they don't know about it. It's that simple.
So get the word out.
First start with the easy, tell friends & family.
Next you can choose to create pofiles on any social networking sites such as
Twitter, Facebook, & Youtube.
While that's external there is an internal advertising option as well, Incentives! Everyone loves free, they love prizes, and bloggers often try to try and attract readers to their blog by offering giveaways. That is, in return for the reader signing up to 'follow' the blog the blogger offers the chance to win a prize. Often readers end up coming back whether they win or not if they ended up seeing something they were interested in.
Another way is through networking with other blogs, encourage others to post your 'button' in their side bar, or become a featured blog on their site.

6. Monetize your blog!

Blog Made- DONE!
Customized- DONE!
Posting on relavent topics- DONE!
Traffic being directed to your site- DONE!
MAKE MONEY!

A New Start

Over the past couple months my life has fallen into disarray a number of times;
Seperation, Flings, Unemployment, Moving, & a 'Back & Forth' Relationship.
But in the end this all comes from the same misshapen ideal of what would make me happy, and it seems I've only just recently started to discover what truely makes me content.

But over the past couple months I've also learned alot about life & the people in it.
I've learned about loss & how simply loving someone often isn't enough.

& so I start anew.

With more thought, more exploration, & more creativity I hope to find my calm.
Routine, Stability, & Solidity until I'm able to find the balance I know is burried deep under all that crap.

& so I start to blog anew.
